Skills

Having worked in a variety of roles over the years, I bring a number of transferable skills to my recent new role as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. With good written skills, experience in a range of I.T and software platforms, as well as a creative degree, I am able to produce a variety of resources and training materials. This helps to support our fantastic team of Speech and Language Therapists in their delivery of vital therapy services. As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, I have achieved the following:
• Level 1 and 2 Makaton certification
• Health and Safety certification
• Safeguarding Adults certification
• Safeguarding Children certification
• Experience of delivering speech and language therapy across two SEN schools
• Session observations
• Assistant at group session work
• Developed and produced multiple resources
• Development and production of training materials
I am sociable, upbeat and friendly with an excellent work ethic. I am also very dedicated, take pride in being organised and work well both within a team and independently.
Background
My interest in Speech and Language began a number of years ago but like so many others out there, found myself on a different path which was hard to get off once children came along. After a period of networking, I secured a volunteering position one day a week at Eg Training to gain experience. This led to me being offered a permanent role which I was delighted to accept.
Prior to this, I spent ten and a half years in a varied role. This included communication and marketing, business support and team engagement as well as providing secretariat services to a charity supporting terminally ill people. Other past experience includes, events, charity and retail.
Personal
I am mum to two amazing boys who keep my husband and I very busy indeed! My spare time is very precious but when I do have time I enjoy baking, reading, painting and walking. I’ve climbed a number of mountains, including Ben Nevis, and adore Labrador dogs. I particularly enjoy pottering in the garden, growing plants and a few vegetables and I keep myself fit by trying to do a regular Pilates and spin class.
As a naturally caring and considerate person, I have a strong sense of community. Alongside my work and home lives I have invested personal time and energy in fundraising and volunteering activities. I get great enjoyment out of ‘giving something back’ because I want to be part of a society that cares and do my small part to try and make a difference.
Support
The team at Eg Training are incredibly supportive. We have regular team meetings as well as CPD sessions where the team can share knowledge and work together to troubleshoot any tricky areas.
There is a vast range of experience across the team which I am able to draw on to further my own development. In addition, there are many opportunities to undertake training programmes which enable me to improve my knowledge and skill set.
I feel very fortunate to be part of such a wonderful, supportive team, and in an organisation that invests in its people. All of this enables us collectively, to provide high quality speech and language therapy services.
